Most of my Saturdays are consumed with housework, yard work and television watching. This one, however, is a bit of a treat.
Queen of Cool has finally joined me in turning 36 years old. We have a long standing tradition of celebrating our birthdays with a full Saturday of sinful talk, decadent shopping, a chick flick and much discussion over where to eat. It may seem cliche', but trust me, this is far from your typical girls' day out.
Cool and I have been friends since we bonded at the age of 12, sharing our geekiness and penchant for good grammar. We've literally grown up together. I am not sure we could be classified as "grown ups" quite yet, but we indeed have spent 24 years as friends.
We have survived horrible fashion trends, questionable hair cuts (multiple stylists), my shady boyfriends, career changes, hip and guilty pleasure concerts and extended bitching sessions. It's amazing to think that you have had the same person, outside of your family members, as part of your life for nearly 25 years. (By now I have usually sent a friend or foe packing.) It's a blessing to know that you have something so constant and so real.
No matter what happens, she's always on my side. It's a pact. I am never picked last for her team. And hopefully she knows the same goes for her.
We are so alike in so many ways and so different in so many others. That's what makes it interesting.
It's corny and I am sure that Cool will definitely chastise me for being so goofy, but I had to say it.
We don't get together a lot, but with the advent of e-mail, we are privvy to each and every in and out of each other's life. I bless the Internet gods each day.
She's sweet and tough. She's hip and happenin' in the full sense of the term. In the words of Goldilocks, she's "just right".
Cool, you are just that, too cool for words. Happy birthday (a week late). I had planned to post your sixth grade picture, but I am just enough afraid of you not to do so.

Cool here. Ragged, I only have one question regarding your Saturday blog - when did I have a questionable haircut. You couldn't be referring to the mullet ala Pinky Tuskadaro (sp?) could you? Certainly not. That's called trendsetting, baby. All joking aside, I count my blessings every day for a friend like you in my life. You're my kind of funny, creative, and we travel on the same wavelengths. It doesn't get better than that! Thanks again for my wonderful b-day celebration doing all the things Cool likes to do. I still feel a little weird calling myself Cool, but it will grow on me.
Cool, cool, cool, we have both had bang issues in the past. It's time you come to grips with them. It's OK. Everyone goes through it, you are not alone.
Hey, thanks for the kudos. Back atcha.
