I’m in my second day of Project New Light (not to be confused with Project Greenlight on Bravo) and I have to say that shining a different light on my life is paying off, denial is a wonderful thing.
I have tried to slow down a bit, concentrate on what makes my life good and remember that sometimes it’s all a matter of perception. I have also started (WARNING: Cliche' coming. . . ) counting my blessings. For instance. . .
I am a radio station flipping fool. I can never seem to find anything around here that holds my interest for more than one song. I find myself singing along gleefully to “Are You Gonna Go My Way” by my man Lenny and all of a sudden, my joy is thwarted when this classic is followed by something by some Celine Dion or Mariah Carey tune. So, I start flipping, in search of something worth my time, only to be disappointed again.
However, the moon and the stars must have been appropriately aligned or it was my good clean living paying off, but I recently hit paydirt. It all started when I flipped to a channel, and much to my surprise, I heard the Violent Femmes’ “Blister In the Sun”. Ever thrilled to hear this on mainstream radio, I turned it up and sang along, knowing this fervor would be short-lived. Just as the song ended and I moved my hand toward the dial, I began to hear The Killers’ “Mr. Brightside.” I paused unsure if this was real, but not wanting to miss the momentum, I sang along. I decided to push my luck and waited for the next song to start. I instantly recognized the first few notes of “Clocks” by Coldplay. What had I done to deserve this? I wanted to know so I could do it over and over and over again. There is a music god and I was ready to make a ritual sacrifice to her. Luckily I pulled into the driveway as the last few notes were played. I hadn’t wanted to chance another song.
I visit that station sparingly now, not wanting to use up all of my radio-listening luck. However, in a recent episode, I got to hear INXS’ “Never Tear Us Apart” and a U2 song back-to-back. I tell you, this good clean living is paying off.
I took the photo shown here late last week. It's a fence in a residential area and I just liked the pattern.

That's so cool. We are in the car a lot, so this would be great for passing the time away. Thanks for the idea.
Wow, I am jealous of you yet again. I'd love to see the Femmes. I have been trying to find their first album on CD forever, but no luck. I listened to the tape so much in college that I wore it out.
