Slightly regenerated

OK, so I think I have recovered from my busy, busy Saturday and Sunday and can now sit down to provide my official "Weekend in Review". It was very, very hectic for me, but will probably be very, very boring for you. So, that's your warning.

You already know that we spent our Friday night perusing the used book sale at the library. I came home with a bounty of books and am ever so thrilled. The nerd in me is doing a geeky dance as I type this.

I was at work at 5 a.m. Saturday morning. Let me repeat that in the event you didn't catch it: A. M. . . in the morning. . . pre-dawn. I had organized a 5K run walk for our community and apparently runners don't like to hit the pavement in the heat of the day, so we had to start bright and early. Runners and their big ideas!

I had said that I was "running" a 5K event and people got the wrong idea. No, I didn't "run" in the event, I "ran" the event. Clear now? One look at me and you should know the difference.

We had over 125 participants and everything (thanks to obsessive-compulsive anal-rententive planning) went off without a hitch. I couldn't be more pleased with the event and the volunteers. Rarely does everything fall into place like that and I know the running gods were on my side. (By the way, we had the coolest of cool shirts produced for the event. If you can't run, at least look like you did, right?)

I made a trek to buy beautiful mums to announce the start of autumn at our house. So far, so good, as they are still alive and to my knowledge haven't been sprayed by the neighborhood cat yet.

What did I do next? I went home to collapse. I was worn out. After a pathetic nap (I am not a good napper) I opted to just piddle around the house. I can waste more time piddling and have nothing to show for my piddling efforts.

On Sunday I had volunteered to photograph a walk for a local Down syndrome advocacy group. Temperatures topped 90 and most of the event took place on a baseball diamond, so after 11 rolls of film, 5 hours of shooting and at least 5 bottles of water, I headed home and straight for the shower. What did I do next? Collapse of course. Then back to more piddling. Piddle here. Piddle there. Piddle everywhere. I must admit that I shot only film on Sunday and didn't brave the digital camera. I should be ashamed, I know and I am sure I will be punished by the camera gods. I hate change.

We settled down for pizza and television and I thought of all I needed to do to get ready for the week. It could all wait. I was done. I was out. I was ready to go back to work.

The photo above was taken in our "guest room". Whenever we merged households, my bedroom furniture became the guest furniture. I put this little pillow on the bed as kind of a welcome of sorts because it reminded me of when I was a little and my dad would tuck me in. As he left the room he'd say, "Sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite." My dad also called me "bug" as in "lady bug", so this pillow was only fitting.

My mom always said that to me also, my job was to respond with...

"If they do, take your shoe and knock them black and blue."

I hadn't heard that! I will have to tell my dad. I don't think we realized there was more to the rhyme.
