Read Along Update: Site Established

After much thought and lots of good input, I have come to a few decisions about our little online reading group.

Thanks to Nicole's suggestion, I have officially set up a website (www.raggedreading.blogspot.com) and now we have a new home for our reading group.

I have also thought long and hard about how to tackle our "selection". I think that perhaps it might be interesting with us to start with the book considered to be the first in the "Chronicles of Narnia" series. So, I would like for us to begin with "The Magician's Nephew", it's a great way for those of considering reading the entire series to get off on the right foot. Plus it gives those that have already read "The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe" a chance to backtrack a bit and perhaps not be bored as we trudge through it for the first time.

In addition, over the holidays I will develop something of a schedule to get us started.

I do have a few ground rules and would luv any input you may have as to others:

This is a no pressure reading group. No dusting your house. No preparing intricate appetizers, schnazzy drinks or baking necessary.

It's also OK if you get busy and can't keep up. We know you have lives outside of Reading Ragged and we want you to attend to them. So, no skipping meals, letting your housework go or missing new episodes of "Lost" just to save face and catch up on your reading. I also know that some of us (meaning me) are slower readers than others and there is nothing worse than feeling pressure to catch up. However, if you want to move on ahead, please do, just don't post any "spoilers".

All opinions are welcomed. No question too silly. No insight too shallow. Everyone can play at this game. Also, no one is checking grammar or references. We trust you.

I will post a link to the site in my faves list and would invite you to do the same once we get this up and running. It's very basic right now, but hopefully soon we will be posting away.

Just a few more questions:
-Do we want to post weekly?

-I believe I need your e-mail address to invite you to join this site, so you can send it to raggedaroundtheedges@hotmail.com. I promise not to share your e-mail address.

-How do we want to handle this? Do we want a moderator? Someone that just sets the schedule? Or can we post at random?

It's your club, so you guys make the call. Let me know your thoughts.

That's crazy you are starting this because yesterday my friend and I were discussing starting one as well. We found this website that has discussion topics for many different books - if you would be interested in using it!!http://www.readinggroupguides.com/

Good suggestion. I will look into it.

What do you think about the book selected etc.?

I think it's a great selection. I have thought about reading that one myself. I may join in with you guys, but I am currently reading Memoirs of a Geisha, knitting a scarf and hoping to start another afghan soon....And going back to school in January!! I'm a busy little bee :)

Ragged, Don't go to my site and read the comments under Narnia. Kat figured out that the book I had been reading which I lost, wasn't the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. It was the Magician's Apprentice. I had to tell her a little about it so she could figure it out for me, and I wouldn't want my comments (although there are about only three or four lines) to be spoilers for anyone. This is such a weird coincidence.

But it was a very good book! Just let me know how you decide to do the Ragged Reading. I'm game for it.

Hey, Cate, maybe you can lead our discussion if you have already read it!
