Welcome to our very first online Read A Long. Yep, you guessed it, this is a gathering place for reading nerds all over the country.
So, our first selection is going to be the entire "Chronicles of Narnia" by C. S. Lewis. I shouldn't say "our" selection, because I kinda picked it on my own and and drug you guys along. However, if this is a big success, maybe we tackle other books and classics and start a whole ballot system. Listen to me, dreaming all big and everything.
We decided (actually Emily and I decided) that we had better start in January in hopes that after the holidays we'd have more "down time" for reading.
I had originally thought that we'd all need to get the same book to keep up, but I think we can easily just follow along chapter by chapter. So, let's all pick up a copy and get started. Do we want to read the entire work, "The Chronicles of Narnia" or start with one of the books, "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe"? Let me know your thoughts.
Anyone have any thoughts on how we should structure our discussions and at what pace? I am a slow reader and I really want this to be a no pressure kinda group. Sound good?
Oh and let me know if you are still game?
Above is the photo of a gift that I had Cynical wrap. It's not his best work, he's not fond of cubes, but it does prove that he's a better wrapper than I will ever be. (I just got this vision of him being all hip-hop while wresting with foil paper.)

My initial reaction is to start with just The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, but isnt there technically a book thats a 'prequel' to that one? Prince Caspian, maybe? Do we want to start from the very first or just read the most famous one then decide if we want to continue with the rest.
I've read LW&W (I'm so lazy) a few times, but I'm up for reading it again. I never got the Jesus angle until I read somewhere else thats what it was about.
Why didn't I look this up before posting the first time? Its The Magicians Nephew. It was written after LW&W but timewise the story happens before LW&W.
Am I being so dorky I'm taking the fun out of this? Stop me if I get all English major-y...
You know, I had the same thought whenever I posted that. "Hmmm, is that indeed the first one?" Maybe we should read the complete "Chronicles". I am up for that.
I'm reading the LW&W with my daughter, Ciara, right now. We want to see the movie, but I really want her to read the book first. I'm game to do a read along with you too. I may have an old musty copy of the Magician's Nephew somewhere already, so I'm set however you decide.
I'm up for reading. . .You name it, especially if it's something fantastical (I think I made that word up!)
I'm seeing "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" tonight. I thought I read the book many years ago but I can't remember anything about it so I guess I didn't. I started on it again last month and LOST THE BOOK. I'll find it again, though if that's the one you pick (or I'll borrow my son's).
Love your tree and the ornaments, and will post one of my favorites later in the week. Also love that you have a "wrapper" in your house willing to shoulder his part of the holiday burden.
The story about the cookies touched a lot of my emotions. The evil cookie queen is not to be worried about. She's forgotten what Christmas is really about, and her cookie kingdom can only crumble after she treated you so badly. (I think we could write a story about her for kids to read so they'd learn not to be mean to people when they grow up.)
