He was a friend of mine

Last night Cynical and I went to see "Brokeback Mountain." It wasn't because we were caught up in the hype. It wasn't because we bought into all of the controversy. I had heard that the movie was well done, had multiple messages and the acting superb.

My assessment: I agree. I thought it was well written, incredibly well acted and well shot. I thought that the characters were real and accessible. My assessment to Queen of Cool was, "It's the best acting I have ever seen, for what that's worth." I am still, however, sorting out all of the messages and themes present in the film.

There is the obvious: love against all odds. However, there were other more prevalent ones: the contrast between how each man dealt with an incredibly difficult and heartbreaking situation. It's about what you do to make it through, what you do to survive and I don't mean the harsh wilderness, I mean in life, in your own life. I saw that sometimes when you can't be with the one you love, you have to love the one you're with. I also know that for others if you can't share your life with that person, being alone is the only other option.

I saw that sometimes being afraid means being alone. I saw that sometimes being brave is detrimental. I saw that sometimes there is no solution to a situation. Everyone's "sometimes" is different.

It was worth my time. It was worth my money and it's worth the thought I am still putting into it.

I saw it a couple weeks ago. I loved it. It was so beautiful and hauntingly sad. I went by myself and had the hardest time trying to explain it to The Man. I mean, the story was easy enough to explain, but everything else...everything else.

It hasn't played here in our little town yet. Sometimes movies skip us altogether. I hope to see it somewhere someday.

I agree with you guys. There were some haunting messages. I am still thinking about them.

It was well done. That's my pathetic way of describing it.

What pain I felt for all of the characters. All of them.

I think the movie was summed up in this quote by Jack..."a god damned bitch of an unsatisfactory situation."

I loved the movie and it broke my heart too...
