Lord, this must be my destination

I am going to a concert. That may not seem monumental to many of you, but it's been ages since I have screamed in anticipation as an artist started toward the center of the stage. I can't recall the last time I sang along at the top of my lungs, belting out "Tin Roof Rusted*" or "Got my baby, got my blanket, got my bucket of beer**".

Who could bring me out of my concert hiatus? Well, John Mellencamp of course. Again, tastes differ and he may not be your cup of tea or brand of beer, but I kinda like the guy. I have middle school memories of "Hurt So Good" being played on the lunchroom juke box. I remember sneaking to listen to "Jack and Diane" on 45 rpm as it was forbidden to me as "music of the devil." I remember the only concert that I ever went to with my youngest brother was in Louisville and how we sang "Little Pink Houses" together as Johnny sang his heart out.

During my 20s I went to many, many concerts. I think that was due to a combination of my love of music and being game for any kind of social event. I always loved seeing music live. It was so much more of an experience than listening to it on album. . . then tape. . . then CD. It was fully enveloping. You used all of your senses. You could sing as loud as you wanted and no one could hear. You could dance even out of rhythm as you'd probably never see those around you again. It was real, it was live and it was for that night only.

I can still recall a single moment or event at each of the concerts I have attended. I assure you that many or most of my other concert-goers can't say the same thing. It's all part of my personal history: my timeline and my musical soundtrack. And I am adding another chapter or at least a few paragraphs.

Now I am contemplating who else I'd like to see in an attempt to rejuvenate my concert-going frenzy and maybe my youth. Who would you like to see live, in person and for one night only? (At a concert venue that is.)

*You know you can't help but to sing along to "Love Shack" by the B-52s.
**Ain't nothing better than sitting on a hill on a mid-summer night, listening as James Taylor strums his guitar, stars shining above, blanket spread out. . . "

You lucky dog. I hope you have a good time at the concert and tell Cynical to watch out for the beachballs. He He Your post takes me back to my concert days. I would like to see Def Leppard again. Those were the good ole days. Cut Loose and have fun :)

My first concert was Donnie and Marie! My mom took me when I was 7. I remember liking their brothers better than them. They opened the act and were funny...at least to a 7 year old.
My last concert was R.E.M. I highly reccomend them! It was awesome...and 10 years ago. Man am I old!

A couple of years ago, my friend bought us tickets to Bon Jovi for my b-day. I wasn't that interested in going, but I'm glad that I did b/c John is beautiful, charming and he ripped his shirt off during the final song. (swoon)

Most recently, I was tempted to see Queen in concert (sans Freddie Mercury, sniff), but unfortunately, the tixs are seriously out of my price range.

I have a copy of "Nothin Matter, and What If It Did" back in the day when he was still John Cougar. I could probably still sing along with every song. Have stacks of fun at the show, and give John a kiss for me if you get the chance;)

I actually saw Def Leppard a few years ago at the River Stages concert in Nashville. It was one of those festival type of music shows with acts playing all day. They are old, very old, don't see them again. You will only be disappointed. Cynical isn't going with me. I think the beach ball incident scarred him for life.

I loved, I mean luvved Donny & Marie when I was a kid, even had the dolls and still have the Deep Purple album. As a matter of fact, I am purple with envy. I'd give anything to see REM. I did visit their old haunt when I was in Athens, GA.

I'd love to see Bon Jovi if nothing else for that grin, that grin alone is worth admission.

I love Matchbox 20 and would love to see them, again, if for nothing else other than Rob's grin. That'd be enough for me.

My dream is to see Lenny Kravitz. I can then die a happy woman. However, next up on my list (a more realistic list) is Nanci Griffith, Patty Griffin, Dixie Chicks, Cowboy Junkies, Mindy Smith and then revist a few of my favorites including James Taylor

I love Mindy Smith's rendition of Jolene by Dolly Parton!

I am so out of it on this. The closest I've ever gotten to a concert is seeing Neal McCoy at Dollywood or George Jones at Renfro Valley. (George was a birthday treat for Hub from our daughter.) Not exactly the same thing.

In my 20's I went to alot of concerns. In that time of my life, I can't recall every concert that I have gone to. Some see like just a blurr and I made it home with a T-shirt. What can I say I was in a self destructive/musical phase in my life. I do however recall a moment at one concert. Before the concern actually begain, but I am sure Cynical has filled you in on the incident.

I haven't been to a concert in forever. I think the last one was Alabama. Or maybe Barenaked Ladies...My first was Metallica back in high school. How fun for you to go to one! Have a great time.
