Corners of my home

There is a theme lately on several blogs I visit regularly, where the author posts favorite corners of his or her home. I thought I'd jump on the bandwagon and even though I should be tearing through my suitcase to make sure I have enough socks and underwear, I thought I'd post a shot here.

You will see in this photo my desk. Yes, that is an iMac you spy. Why are you still using this antiquated piece of equiment when you have a snappy new laptop? Well, I am still in love with my baby Mac and I cannot bear to part with her yet. Plus the CD burner on her is phenomenal and I can't let go of my Photoshop programs. And, she's so very cute.

You may also see a few of the books I am currently reading. I won't be taking these along on my trip, so they are stacked on my desk awaiting my return. The Jerusalem mug stuffed with pens was a gift from a dear friend that visited the Middle East many years ago in a quest to find who he was to be.

The most observant of you may see a basket full of sundry items including cards I created using several of my photographs. I bundled these as Christmas gifts, but kept a stack for my use. There is a journal there where I jot ideas for my blog. Also inside the basket are CDs sent to me from Jenny from the Blog. I am working my way through many of them, savoring them as if I am tasting new spicy food.

There is a clock that I never look at, so I probably need to move it. I just like the sound it makes as it ticks away the seconds of my day.

Placed on my desk one can also see a tape dispenser shaped like a lady bug. My dad calls me Ragged Bug (except he uses my real first name) and so often friends and family give me goodies featuring lady bugs.

The daisy frame contains a family photo. A little art deco lamp completes the picture. Above my desk hangs a Mary Englebreit commemorative 2000 graphic.

The desk chair was one of my first furniture purchases. I bought it as part of a pair at a flea market. I just liked that they were aged and comfortably worn.

The desk was a gift from Cynical's father. He found it in pieces during one of his handyman jobs. He rescued it and with much care restored it for me. I believe it to be an old teacher's desk and I love that it has huge heavy drawers and the top is slightly cracked. I imagine a teacher sitting at it, looking out at her pupils, recording grades as they read an assignment or take a quiz.

I'd like to say that this is my official creative space. However, I rarely sit at the desk. It's much too crowded for doing work, but I do use it is as my hub of activity. It holds books to read, bills to be paid, notes to remind me. It's my center of activity even if I never seem to land there.

I love your corner. I'll have to jump on this band wagon. Mine won't be as pretty. That's the thing about kids...They find all the pretty things too tempting.
My folks buy me lady bug things as well. My dad called me Lady Bug when I was little, but hasn't in years.

I used to call my girl "Bug". It wasn't specifically ladybug, just bug.

I like your little corner of the world. I'm still working on getting one worked out. I did just put up my bookshelves, so that's my most exciting "emilyspot" right now.

Thanks for sharing us a picture of your office desk. I wouldn't be able to show a picture of our desk that the computer sits on cause there is too much stuff on it. Have fun in Orlando.

This is so nice. It's kind of like it's just sitting there waiting for you until you get back.
