Baby, it's cold outside

We had hoped for a beautiful weekend, wanting to take some time to read outside, maybe take a walk and perhaps do a little planting. However, Mother Nature had something else in store for us, so we found ourselves huddled inside, digging out long sleeves, heavy socks and blankets. It makes for "good sleeping weather" as we like to say, but it certainly doesn't encourage much quality time with nature.

Our weekend was hectic as we started out with dinner with my folks followed by a trip to the bookstore (for warm coffee and a break from the cold wind.) On Saturday I attended a wedding shower for a family member, meeting Cynical afterward for dinner, a visit to Target and Starbucks before retreating home with two rented movies in hand and visions of warm covers and an early bedtime in mind. I knitted while we watched "Derailed" and gabbed on the phone while Cynical started watching "The Family Stone". There is nothing better than cuddling up in bed and watching a movie. I never thought I would want a television, much less a DVD player, in our bedroom, but I have to say that it's quite a luxury and one that I won't soon give up.

On Sunday I joined my folks for church and Cynical joined us for dinner. I presented my mother with her hand-knitted yoga mat bag. Afterward we made our way home, Cynical very chivalrously pumping gas for me as I had not wisely worn sandals and baby, it's cold outside.

A nap was in store for our afternoon. I am not much of a "napper", but on a cold, rainy and gloomy day, it was the perfect fix. Snuggled under the covers, Cynical sleeping beside me, surrounded by cats, hearing the occassional burst of rain, it was heaven.

We finally managed to drag ourselves out of bed and I set about getting ready for the week: laundry, sweeping, dishes and packing. Soon it was time for quality Sunday evening television. I took the upstairs viewing center to settle down for the night and Cynical nabbed the living room for the "Survivor" finale. Now that is a modern romance, eh? Not quite ready for bed, I started a last minute gift knitting project and then finally settled in.

I wasn't ready to greet the cold this morning as I tumbled out of bed and was tempted to grab our throw and snuggle in on the couch, but employment and duty called. Alas, another weekend swept away. Another work week ahead.

The weekends go by way too fast.

That sounds like an absolutely lovely way to spend a weekend.

It's nasty here too. Guess we're being paid back for all those 60 degrees and sunny days in January. Yuch! Still, sounds like a good weekend!
