Blue skies and festivals

Ever have one of those days that leaves you tired and fulfilled, but you can't really name one thing that you can credit for either?

Our morning began bright and early as we prepared for Cynical's parents to visit. His dear, dear dad had agreed to help us with a few projects. You see not only does he possess the patience of Job, he also has a truck. We managed to take away several items including some yard waste and a couch that had become a thorn in both of our sides.

We thought the latter was going to be a snap, but instead it turned out to be a feat of engineering, a test in patience and a show of strength. When we first merged household, Cynical and I had moved a couch and loveseat into our den/basement to make room for my living room furniture. How we managed this, I am still uncertain.

Now much like a ship in a bottle, we were unable to get it back out again. Several failed attempts to maneuver the couch out were unsuccessful, but thanks to some patience, some ingenuity and input from all involved, we managed to squeeze the green couch out of our home and our lives. Good riddance. We replaced the couch with a futon in order to add some flexibility to our den and provide additional bed space should we need it.

After a leisurely lunch with Cynical's family, we headed to a blues festival in a nearby community. It's an annual event for my family and something of a Father's Day tradition for my dad and I. Cynical, under duress, joined us this year. The festival depicts all that he abhors: crowds, the blues genre, and heat. I adore him all the more because he agreed to go.

I am certain that he summoned all of his super powers to blow in a storm that ended the festival, forced us into a beer garden tent and eventually sent us packing. I did manage to get in a little knitting time and while it lasted, it was perfect. Live music, quality father-daughter time, a cool breeze, sitting along a riverfront. . . who could ask for anything more?

The above photograph was taken at the festival. No need for sunglasses as it became overcast soon after we arrived.
