I can be a creature of habit, it's true. I can also be pretty scattered and haphazard.
One area where I hold true is my morning routine. I am not a morning person. I don't hop out of bed greeting the day with open arms and grace. I tend to press the snooze a few times, wander aimlessly down the stairs and start following the same procedures and order to things that I do each morning.
However, with such upheaval at Chez Ragged, everything is a little "off" these days. I used to wander into the living room, turn on the television, open the laptop and catch up on what happened while I slept before I started prepping myself for work.
Now our only accessible television is in our bedroom and Cynical sleeps over an hour later than I do, so flipping the remote would only be rude; and a plastic barrier stands between me and the living room, so I am not quite sure what to do with myself. Yesterday I sat in bed with the laptop, but I suspect my key tapping interupted my beloved's sleep.
This morning I just sat on the couch, now stationed in the kitchen, and decided what to do next. There wasn't a lot I could do, so I simply started the rest of my routine a little early. Sad, isn't it?
The cats are having the same "displaced" feeling. I moved their food bowl and water into the basement where they are staying during the day. They know where it is, they ate out of it all day yesterday, but this morning, they all stood where the bowl normally resides and stared at me. They were ready for things to be "where they are supposed to be."
It hasn't been so bad, really, but it is a bit odd sitting in a big overstuffed chair facing your kitchen sink eating a baby green, feta cheese and cucumber salad, but it kinda shakes things up and I like that.
Last night I just stuck to the bedroom and avoided the mess. I knitted and I read and I watched television. I decided to look upon this as a break from household chores and the need to be productive. It was actually pretty luxurious, listening to the rain, laptop on one side, instruction book and knitting on the other, cats strewn around the room, tea on the table nearby, television buzzing in the background. I may miss my new routine whenever things "go back to normal."
Floor update: The sanding and staining are done and it looks great. I'm a little disappointed that the portion of the floor replaced prior to our watch is a little lighter, but after talking to "The Floor Guy", he said it would darken in time. It's amazing that there is virtually no dust. It's awesome in fact. Today they will coat the floors with three layers of polyurethane. I can't wait to slide on them in my new socks.
I started knitting a sock in yarn I had originally chosen for my first pair. It's Meilenweit Fun & Stripes 80% wool, 20% Polyamide in Color 632. It reminds me of candy corn. See a theme here?

You are adaptable. That's a big plus. And you probably see the light at the end of the tunnel now, so maybe that will help. Poor kitties though. They probably think things are going to be that way forever.
OHMYGOSH!!!

Check her temperature! Call the doctor!! Get an IV going, STAT!!!
Just kidding. A change in routine is good, but don't ask the kitties that! : .)
