You know when you are really into something and you try to talk to someone about it and their eyes glaze over and he or she looks at you as if you are reciting the Constitution, only they'd be more interested in that than what you are talking about?
That's how I feel most of the time. None of my local buddies knit. None of my local buddies blog. No one within earshot listens to any of the music I do. And since I don't discuss blogging with anyone outside of the online world in order to protect the innocent (namely me), well sometimes I gotta keep all the excitement bottled up.
Not long ago I managed to woo a dear friend into knitting. It didn't take much wooing. I just gave her a scarf for her birthday and waved needles in front of her and she was hooked, literally. It's been very cool to discuss all things knitty not only online, but offline with a knitting pal in the same locale. We even meet up periodically to talk about yarn, boys and lip gloss.
As for the blogging, well I just kept that under my hat until one day she discovered this here site all on her own. The cat, so to speak, was out of the proverbial bag, so I welcomed her into my other world (the world of my Internet self) and made her take a sacred oath, swear upon her yarn and first born to keep it a secret and she complied.
Recently, however, I think the will to blog was too much for her and she joined the pack. (You can visit her at Kissed Knitter.) So, last week we had a little meet up to knit. I was ripping out the beloved Jelly Bean sock, she was mastering a drop stitch scarf. As we chitted and as we chatted our conversation turned to blogging and then to knitting and then to music and then to whatever else was on our collective mind.
I was like, "Omigod, this is so cool. She like gets all of it. She's like sitting my home all relaxed and non-judgmental like. She's got knitting needles in her hands and we are talking about how we like surf the net uncontrollably and eat Craisins on everything. It's like totally rad."

Very cool to find this friend. Or should I say . . . this is, like just, like, ya know, like, waaay cool! TO.TAL.LY!!
I can hardly wait to get settled and find that one friend with whom I have many commonalities. I miss that, much as you reflected of your earlier status. I let many friendships go over the years while dealing with the difficult relationship with my husband. I have a lot of restructuring to do in my life. I'm happy for you, but envious, as well!
I am so glad that you have someone like this. I have my best pal Mei Mei's mommy. We like so many of the same things. She is an avid readers, knitter, camper, she is just super cool. Also she is has had infertility problems and she is now adopting a baby from China.
I am so blessed to have her in my life!
It's nice to find someone that you just click with. It's also good to aquire someone into the collective. Resistance is Futile. Cynical will appreciate that and I see Needles isn't the only one that can turn them over to the dark side.
Who knew we had so much in common? :) I am so pleased!
