Words worth leaving behind

I want to begin by thanking each of you for your incredible comments. Blush. Blush. I was very hesitant to write the previous post because for some reason it felt very, very personal and I wasn't sure I wanted to put it on paper so to speak. However, your response touched me, made me well-up and was so encouraging. I had long ago lost some of my zeal for writing. I suspect it had been sucked out of me as I had written one too many memos and far too many press releases. You ignited that fire again with your kind words. Thank you. Someone once told me that it's easy to write well, if you write honestly. I keep trying to remember that.

Last night I listened as someone was differentiating between two people and she kept saying, "You know the fat one, the fat one."

I kept thinking to myself that an educated, intelligent and wordly person such as she should be able to use her over-developed vocabulary in a much more creative way, particularly when describing another person.

I was offended on so many fronts and that got me to thinking about all of the words I wish weren't part of our vocabulary.

Fat. . . . . chubby. . . . . stupid. . . . . ugly. . . . . homely. . . . . lesser. . . . . retarded. . . . . poor. . . . . dumb. . . . . loser. . . . .

Are there words that you wish could be exiled from our daily vocabulary, not just the obvious ones?

Why can't we use the extensive and inclusive English language in a way that is creative and not degrading.

Smart. . . . . loving. . . . . strong. . . . . inviting. . . . . sensitive. . . . . happy. . . . . beautiful. . . . . gorgeous. . . . . attentive. . . . . friendly. . . . .

Yet another photo from the farmer's market.

Amen. Was it Thumper or Flower who said, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all"? And I'm glad your writing fire is glowing again.

Wow most the 1st group of words are bad words at our house. Yuri will often come home and
say "So and So" said a BAD word. I reply they said a bad word.
Yes they said the S-word.
Oh well you shouldn't use it.
Yes we don't use Stupid it is bad.

That of course is not the bad word that I thought of, but I am really glad that he tries to keep a clean vocabulary.

It's funny..."stupid" is a bad word at our house, too.

Wouldn't it be nice if every time someone said (or did)something hurtful to someone else they would get a small but painful ZAP. Imagine how the world would change.

Then again, do we want to be stifled, even if it's for the better, by fear?

Nope, there's gotta be a better solution...I just don't know what it is.
