Next Tuesday, a week from today, my dear Cynical and I will celebrate 10 years together. I won't get all sappy about it yet, but there will be plenty of heart-wrenching, make-you-gag posts in the following days. So prepare yourself and keep a trash can nearby.
In the meantime, Cynical and I have once again tossed tradition out the door. We aren't taking a big trip. We aren't doing big gifts. Instead we have a few other surprises up our sleeves, or in our shoes, or at the bottom of my purse.
One of which is that we are going to make a commemorative CD, a copy for each of us. (Gush, gush!) Before you get all sentimental and weepy, most of the songs mark particular moments over the past 10 years, both romantic and silly. Some are all sweet and such, like our "official" song "Trouble Me" by the 10,000 Maniacs, but others note more humorous events such as "Insensitive" by Jann Arden or "Ironic" by our beloved Alannis. (Yes, there are funny stories there, but I just don't want to share them with you. . . yet.)
Get on with the contest, you say! Ok, ok. . . here's the challenge, it's two-fold, so read carefully.
Part 1:
I would like to know what songs you would include on your commemorative CD to your beloved, the unusual ones, the ones that make you giggle and make you melt. Not the one you danced to at your high school prom (unless it was "Footloose" or something else as romantic as "In Your Eyes" by Debbie Gibson).
Part 2:
At this point, our draft CD is called: "Ragged-Cynical: 10 Years and Not Ready to Quit Yet" (title is still in the works, that's why we call it a "draft".). That's where the second part of this little contest comes in. I need a title for our CD. So, help us out here.
Your Prize:
The lucky winner will receive: their very own copy of the CD and some other goodies I have cooked up. (Not literally, so don't start worrying about my culinary abilities or how I am going to mail them to you.)

Part 1- I would have almost the whole album to Warrant Cherry Pie (Dating) then The Search is Over by Survivor then followed by Cross My Heart by George Strait Pure Country (Wedding) then songs from all of Matchbox 20 albums (Pre Kids) then songs from the Wiggles (Kiddie time) followed up with ACDC You Shook Me All Night Long and Back In Black. (Our favorites)
Part 2- Decade of Destiny or you could replace Destiny with Destruction. If you what to have a cool album name that has nothing to do with the content.
RUDY, Rudy, Rudy,...
Our songs were...
I want your Sex-- George Michael
Do you think I'm Sexy? Rod Stewart
I'm to Sexy- Right Said Fred
Okay mybe not, but surely this is good for some laughs!
Working on my list!
Okay Here is the "offical" Brando loves Rudy list.
1. Survivor- The Search
2. George Strait- I cross my heart
3. Alabama- There's no Way
4. Nelso - Love & Affection
5. Extreme - More than Words
6. Warrant - Love in Stereo
7. Michael Bolton- When A Man Loves A Woman
8. Rick Springfield- Affair of the Heart.
9. Someone Like You
10 Yuri's Song- Stevie Wonder -You are the Sunshine of my life
11. Yin's Song- Savage Garden- I knew I loved you before I met you.
These were our special songs while we were dating and early into our marriage. Yin and Yuri's songs are my special songs for them. I realize that some of these are older of newer, but I usually never listen to much that is considered "in". I am a hippy with my favorite being classic rock. Eagles, Skynard, and such.
Not sure what to name the CD.
I really want to win this contest. I love "mixes". I used to make them all the time. I mean all the time. It was crazy. How could you not have a "mix" without a Debbie Gibson son. Should I be ashamed to say I love that song and when they have the 80's weekends on the radio I sing at the top of my lungs? Oh well..
My songs:
I don't want to live without you--Foreigner
Here We are--Alabama
Everything--Alanis
Love of my Life-Michael W. Smith
Broken Road- Rascal Flatts
A Pirate at Forty--Jimmy Buffett
Now, a name for your CD. That's hard. Since a collection of "your" songs..how about "The Best of Ragged and Cynical". God, I hope I win.
Needles and my taste in musci is a bit different. There is a couple fo songs that I think might make our list. The first one is
"Got You were I want you." by The
Flies.
"PLUSH" Stone Temple Pilots
Any song by Mary Chapen Carpenter
Lightning Crashes "LIVE"
Throw in a Billie Dean song
A Paul Simon Song
Finish it off with VooDoo by Godsmack.
Yes I know it is a eclectic compilation but thats they way we are. I makes it more interesting that way.
For the title of YOUR CD.
It should be Raggedly Cynical: Just the way we like it.
I will think on this and get back to you.
1. Trouble Me - Natalie Merchant
2. Insensitive - Jann Arden
3. I Will Never Be the Same - Melissa Etheridge
4. Ironic - Alanis Morrisette
5. I Saw You First - John Mellencamp
6. You Got the Best of My Love - The Emotions
Oh, and the album title should be, "Damn, has it been that long?!" or "Uh...I'm not renewing my option this year."
SWEET HOME ALABAMA -LYNYRD SKYNYRD
DIXIELAND DELIGHT -ALABAMA
CAUGHT UP IN YOU -.38 SPECIAL
IT'S A LONG WAY TO THE TOP (IF YOU WANNA ROCK AND ROLL) -AC/DC
I'VE GOT THE WORLD ON A STRING -FRANK SINATRA
IS IT OK IF I CALL YOU MINE -FAME SOUNDTRACK
YOU MAY BE RIGHT -BILLY JOEL
WHO LET THE DOGS OUT -BAHA MEN
(NIGHT TIME IS) THE RIGHT TIME -RAY CHARLES
NOTHIN' BUT A GOOD TIME -POISON
KRYPTONITE -3 DOORS DOWN
ALWAYS YOU -SOPHIE ZELMANI
BLESSED -ELTON JOHN (for when Girl was born)
FOREVER AND FOR ALWAYS -SHANIA TWAIN (for when Boy was born)
**The Man says I have to add the Aqua Teen Hunger Force Theme Song and You Shook Me All Night Long -AC/DC too.**
I'd call it: Ten Years of "Trouble"
I have another idea for the title of the CD. since there are songs on there from the good times and the bad times...how about "The Best and Worst of Ragged & Cynical".
Adding to Pilot's list:
"Head Over Feet" - Alanis
"Forever" "Every Time I Look at You" and "I Was Made for Lovin You" - KISS
"I Wanna Be Your Girlfriend" - that's the MCC song that was popular around that time
"I Wanna Take Care of You" - Billy Dean
"Matter of Trust" - Billy Joel
Title? Do something classy like "X". It can stand for 'ten', and it also represents a kiss.
Here goes:
Sexual Healing - Marvin Gaye (self-explanatory)
In My Life - the Beatles (first dance at wedding)
Miserable - Lit
Strokin' - Clarence Carter (We always request this at OTHER folk's wedding receptions, just to be ornery.)
Isn't She Lovely - Stevie Wonder (for the kiddies)
When I'm Sixty-Four - the Beatles
I'd call it "The First Ten".
Hub and I have NO, NADA, ZILCH "our song". It says something about our partnering up but I'm not sure what.
We also haven't any songs we both love the same amount.
The only thing we agree on to listen to in the car is a Willie Nelson CD, a Tanya Tucker CD, and the oldies but goodies cds of songs from the fifties and some sixties. We're the odd couple.
I've been busy enough that I couldn't concentrate on a submission for your contest. I also have had some trouble thinking of "luuuuuuuv" songs, probably because there is no one in my life now. Then, just a few minutes ago something popped into my mind, and I would like to offer 2 songs by K. T. Oslin from the 80s: "Live Close By, Visit Often" and "Younger Men (Are Starting To Catch My Eye)." Here's the deal . . . they are both songs to play when Cynical is getting just a little too _________ (you fill in the blank)!!!
OK, those are not what you'd expect on an anniversary CD, but in the spirit of your challenge to pick unusual ones, I thought they were pretty cool! It never hurts for *both* of you to remember that you need to stay on your toes to keep the romance in the relationship.
Happiness to you both.
