But it's all over now. . .

Ever wish that your friends lived closer. Ever wish that your weekend was just a little longer. Ever wish that you hadn't eaten everything suggested to you. Ever wish that you could live in autumn forever.

Our weekend was full, in more ways than one. Needlefingers and Pilot arrived safe and sound Friday night and we immediately sought out food. We visited a Japanese restaurant where we each dined until I seriously thought we might need to do some laps in the parking lots. The chef just kept tossing more stuff on the large grill before us and I kept thinking, "No, not more noodles. No, not more rice. Please don't put that chicken on my plate. Seriously, I may explode."
Our guests are Halloween fans and we helped feed their obsession by taking them to two local shops, which proved very fruitful for them. I have to admit that even though we don't pull out all of the stops on Halloween decorating as they do, I certainly love the holiday, love all of the trappings and think it's so cool that they are creative enough to do it up right.

The new Target in my community has a full-fledged Starbucks inside and I had to show Needlefingers even though it wasn't up and running yet. What did I do to deserve such a luxury. I may never shop any place else again.

Saturday morning after breakfast, we dedicated a few hours to geocaching. We claimed a total of eight within a few hours of urban hunting. It was such a beautiful day that we decided to grab some lunch and head to the park. The park served as a dual-purpose for us as we also nabbed a cache or two there. When afternoon hit, we showed our true boring colors, by taking our guests back home for some television flipping and napping. After a quick trip to a flea market of sorts, we settled in for dinner prepared by Cynical. Lasagna. . . . enough said.

Feeling that we weren't quite ready to cap off the night, we decided to make an icecream run. Shhh, don't tell the calorie counters or those living by the no eating after 7 rule. Those things don't apply when you have guests, right?

A late night movie tempted my drowsiness and I gave in, snoozing through part of it.

This morning after Cynical's famous pancakes, we headed out for some more caching. Upon realizing that Needlefingers and Pilot were approaching their 400th find, we were determined to get them there in one fell swoop. And that we did, claiming 12 of our own and 15 for them.

After lunch out we headed back to the house, tired, full and sad to know our guests would soon be leaving.

So, now, here we sit, laundry turning in the basement, storms on their way, a full work week ahead, wishing we had just a few more hours, that our guests lived just a little closer and darnit, employment didn't cramp our style.

I wish for friends living closer frequently. Several live just a bit too far for a weekend drive. And I know that feeling of blahhh when those treasured friends leave. Humdrum just stinks, doesn't it?
