Home again

We packed up everything we could possibly cram into our car and headed out for a state park on Friday in a mad-dash attempt to beat darkness. Our ingenious plan of essentially no double-checking, chucking any thoughts of packing appropriately for the weather and essentially leaving completely unprepared worked, because we sunk our last tent stake just as darkness fell upon us.

The cool weather, falling leaves and a gently burning fire made it all worth it. This trip signified the beginning of autumn to me.

The weekend was fairly uneventful as we alternated between hiking up to the bath house, eating anything within reach, attempting to nap and avoiding the smoke from the fire. All-in-all it was a good expedition, but we certainly missed our camping cohorts.

In an effort to liven up our site, I did sport some 50-cent, bubble-gum machine, hillbilly teeth. This attempt worked on my dear Cynical, who giggled to the point that I thought he might need to take a walk to the bathhouse yet again.

Our conversations primarily centered around what I seemed to have forgotten (please note: this is paraphrased.)

Cynical: So, exactly what did you bring? We don't have a pan to warm the beans* in. You didn't put any bottled water in the cooler. And we don't have enough blankets given the temperature.

Ragged: But I can easily meet all of your yarn needs.

*Camping and baked beans are synonymous to Cynical.

On the way home, we did make a stop to visit Needlefingers, Pilot and our favorite patient, who is looking very good and is perhaps the most welcoming person I know. Send good and healing thoughts her way. I sported my new teeth yet again, but the slobbering was much too much to share with the unsuspecting souls. Sorry, guys!

Top photo is of my shower shoes. I have no explanation except that they are an important part of my camping attire. The second shot is of the fire we scooted around most of the day. Why is a fire so mesmerizing? I fear that if left unattended I could be a fire bug in my own right.

It's not camping unless a few essentials are left behind...that's where the "roughing it part" comes.

Glad to hear that you had a good time camping. Love the picture of the campfire. I also love campfires. We had a fire in our firepit this past weekend. We just sat and stared at it for hours.
