Sunshine in the sky; rainy days inside

This is my contribution to the Project Spectrum colors for June and July. I made a pair of these socks for Phin (using Lorna's Laces) as part of a crafty trade, and I liked the simplicity of the pattern so much that whenever I started thinking about knitting some red socks, I decided to try it out again. And I love how it showed up so well in this Sockotta red yarn.

I wanted red socks for a number of reasons. First and foremost, I wanted to wear them around during the holidays to cheer me as I wrapped gifts, fondled ornaments and watched cheesy Christmas movies. I also thought that they'd remind me of my college alma mater. And, yes, they are very red. When I bought this yarn I instantly regretted it. It was so very bright, but as I started knitting it, I found that I liked it, the color suited the pattern for me and soothed my inner elf.

Here are the particulars:

Rainy Day Socks (Sorta)
Pattern from: Magknits
Cast on 60 stitches
Yarn: Plymouth Sockotta Color 803
Needles: Size 1 Addis (Magic Loop Method)
Completed: July 5, 2007

In the works
On the needles now is the Irish Hiking Scarf that I am making out of Lion Brand's Cashmere Blend yarn in Charcoal. It's a bit of a stashbuster for me as I bought this yarn many, many moons ago at a huge discount.

And then there's dear Rusted Root. Pattern is going swimmingly, but it's time for me to try it on and I just can't seem to force myself into placing it on scrap yarn. I can be such a lazy knitter at times.

Those socks are so pretty! I really love the ankle ones you were doing there for a while too. I hardly ever wear socks but when I do, I'm all about the ankle length. I bet it's fun making socks.

Awesome socks!

I feel ya on the putting things on waste yarn. It always knocks off my knitting rhythm.

I have come back to this post several times and everytime I do I think the same thing, "Red socks at night...sailors' delight. Red socks in the morning sailors take warning." It makes no sense, but then half the stuff I think is like that.
