As you know by now, the midwest and south are in the midst of a heatwave. And we don't like it one bit. Much of our time these days is spent talking about the heat, escaping the heat and cursing the heat.
And sadly, even though the sun is shining brightly outside, we seem to find ourselves trapped by the heat inside our air-conditioned, dark cave of a house. See, we've done everything we can to keep our little house cool, including closing all of our blinds. In addition to sunlight streaming through our windows, another casualty has been cooking. Our little kitchen heats up quickly, so we have avoided firing up the stovetop and oven. This, of course, isn't much of a sacrifice for me given my lack of cooking desire or skills.
However, this morning I braved the hot and scary kitchen, cooking up the bounty I picked up at the farmer's market yesterday. We dined on sweet corn, green beans, gifted tomatoes, tomato/cucumber/mozzarella salad and squash. I suppose with summer comes the good and the bad: summer's bounty of fresh vegetables paired with the dreaded heat.
They say this will break next week; if you count 92 degrees as a break.
PS: I entered a little contest over at "Shut Up, I'm Counting" and had to list my two favorite knitting patterns. A tough, tough decision.

mmm, those veggies look wonderful! Tonight for dinner, I made Kentucky green beans. Delicious! Do you know why they're called Kentucky green beans? Are they grown there?
Your veggies sound wonderful! I love going to the farmer's markets, but this community is so small that it is only on Saturday morning, and I always forget until it is too late. :(
