Our day began with a bike ride to the beach to welcome the sun. A quiet breeze. A deserted beach. My beloved near. What a wonderful way to start a Tuesday. (That and the fact that someone else is making our bed, washing our towels and washing our dishes.)
After our bike trek we headed to Charleston where we took a historic carriage ride courtesy to mules named Assault and Battery. Upon bidding farewell to the duo, we ventured through the open air market and eventually made our way to King Street Grille for lunch. After the required sustenance, we went to visit Knit. Perhaps I should be more clear, I visited Knit while Cynical meandered along Wentworth. Wonderful shoppe, great selection, could have used some more personal service.
Our assault on downtown continued when we further explored the historic district, made a stop by Rainbow Row, toured Battery Park and walked along the bay.
And then it was back to Folly Beach where we once again headed to the water, this time to wrap up our day before going to dinner. In the late afternoon we nearly had the beach all to ourselves, as we walked along with the tide lapping at our feet, picking up shells. I took the opportunity to read, knit a bit and relax. Afterward we dined on yet more seafood at the Terrapin Cafe.
Once again we are tucked safe and sound in the inn; coffee at our side; beloved with his nose in a book. Isn't it romantic?
Photos:
The bikes that took us to Folly this morning. I had forgotten how much I love riding a bike, particularly a turquoise Schwinn with hot pink tires. I love this bike more than life itself.
Morning on Folly Beach.
The carriage that hauled us around downtown Charleston. Feeling a tad guilty and a bit inhumane as the mules that pulled us were so very, very sad.
Five shots of beautiful houses in downtown Charleston.
A poorly taken photo of Rainbow Row, just for Emily. (If only cars would quit parking in the designated areas.)
Sumter monument at Battery Park. There is also one shot of me hi-fiving the statue, but I thought it better to leave it out.
Shells at Folly Beach.
The good life: knitting, reading, the beach. . .
