Home is NOT where the heart is

It seems that once the calendar rolls over to November 1, everyone loses his or her mind. Immediately our families start volleying for power over the holidays and consequently us. Instantly we begin to wage that inner battle of balance: the balance between sanity and making those around us happy. I become a door mat, stricken with anxiety, trying to wedge open my office window so I can leap to freedom.

And within one conversation, I am suddenly wishing I could move far, far away and not send out change-of-address cards.

We try to stagger the meals so that everyone can rotate houses if necessary. We go to son's house, and his in-laws come too. Daughter and husband eat there then go to his mom and dad's. That's when I usually head for my sister's where mom and dad are eating.

Thank goodness we live close. We see each other all the time so you wouldn't think it would be a big deal...but it turns out that it feels like it is.
