When we left work yesterday our cars were covered with about a quarter-inch of ice. I had gone out a few minutes before time to leave and started my car, hoping the heater and the defrost would do most of the heavy-lifting. When we got ready to go, I did a little scraping, but for the most-part it was pretty easy; so I helped out a few co-workers, one of which was ill-equipped for the weather. I noticed that my ear was cold, but I attributed it to the still-falling freezing rain and frigid wind.
All was well, everyone was on their way. I took my wet coat off, tossed it into back seat, removed my wet hat and scarf and headed home. Along the way I noticed my ear was burning and when I reached up to feel it, it was as if someone had attached a pork chop to the side of my head. It was swollen and meaty. Yuck.
Thinking it was just the cold and eventually it would get better, I dismissed it. I shared this fact with my dad who called to make sure I made it home safely. This morning, however, it's still swollen. I'm a tad worried, it didn't help that my mom called with stories of gloom, doom, lost ears and cellulitis.
I thought I was improving my karma yesterday, but I think it bit me.
I have to go now and spend the day e-mailing my friends with this information, getting their insight and answering their questions. Consider them my own medical team, an on-call medical team that is.
