The most wonderful thing about birthdays? People thinking of you, reminding you that you are loved and that you love them right back.
Even though my day was full of catch-up at work, multiple phone calls, lots of paper shuffling and several meetings, it was a good one; as in between all of that I got marvelous cards, e-cards, e-mail, phone calls, blog comments, and goodies delivered to my desk. And before May 12 even arrived I got such wonderful, sweet and thoughtful gifts and cards in the mail. Good mail rocks.
One call, in particular, touched me most and nearly made me cry. . . just a little. Some of you may recall a very dear, old friend that I reconnected with briefly in 2006. (If you don't, here's a little reminder.) She called the house yesterday and Cynical gave her my work number. When I picked up the phone she broke immediately into "Happy Birthday". And it took my breath away. I instantly recognized the voice.
Other 39th birthday memories: pink strawberry cupcakes baked by my beloved, coffee and dinner with my folks, a mantle full of cards, two additional phone calls from friends who I miss terribly (one of which managed to juggle two toddlers while we talked) and being one step closer to a pocket camera.
Special thanks to each of you for making the day special. It's the people you love that count, don't you think?
