Dog days of summer

It's hot, very hot. It's humid, very humid. And that's a combination that usually keeps us inside, safe and cool in our air conditioned house. However, this weekend, we had far too many things on the "to do" list to have that luxury.

I got home from the conference Friday and did some catching up for the week. And on Saturday we hit the ground running. We started our day at perhaps one of my favorite places: the farmer's market, where we loaded up on fresh veggies and even some blueberries. We stopped for breakfast at a local bread place and then decided to start looking for some unique older furniture pieces for the house. At out first stop we met up with my mom and headed for coffee. My dad called from an auction encouraging me to come as he'd spied some Fiestaware, a glider and some other goodies, all of which we were outbid on. (Pick a price point and stick to it; that's my motto.) After another stop by an antique flea market shop, we headed home. I spent the afternoon getting my hair colored and Cynical piddled away his afternoon.

We went to my folks for dinner and picked some blackberries afterward. I knitted the remainder of my night away.

This morning after a walk before the heat set in, I made a breakfast of fresh strawberries, blackberries and blueberries. A trip to Lowe's put us to work filling some planters for the front porch and hanging a blind. After another trip to Lowe's to get a better fitting blind, I actually made supper, using all of the fresh produce from the day before. Assorted chores have filled my afternoon and I am proud to announce we still don't have anything on the walls.

A shot from Centennial Park in Nashville, where I walked while visiting with a college buddy. So glad to catch-up, so nice to hear her laugh.

Green tomatoes all ready for frying. Mmmmmm, served with some sweet tea. Despite the humidity, I do love being almost a Southerner.
