It's gloomy outside and I can't seem to focus, so instead I have been making a mental list of the little things that make me happy. Yes, that's the way my brain works: in list form. Some people escape to their "happy place". I retreat to lists. Never doubt my obsessive/complusive tendencies. If you need proof, I can oblige:
What brings a smile to my face these days:
Mixed CDs created for and by me
Fluorescent light bulbs (last 10 times longer and use 1/4 the electricity. Need more proof that I am a nerd?)
Handmade gifts
Photos of fall leaves
Lists
Carved pumpkins
Chili and grilled cheese sandwiches on Sunday nights
Good mail (Few and far between)
Home improvement projects gone smoothly (Fewer and farther between)
Vintage stationery
Fleece pullovers
Baby photos
Magic 8 Balls
Fine point (black) ink pens
Real Simple magazine delivered to my door
Hot green tea with honey
Clean, folded laundry
House guests
Eucalyptus Spearmint
Fresh painted woodwork (Only dreaming here)
Blog stalking
Birthday cake
I shall stop for now, but I feel a second installment coming on. . . . .
What would be on your list?

I used to have a journal that had a happy baby on one side and a sad baby on the other side. On the happy baby side it said "Good Days" and I made a giant list of things that make me happy. And the sad baby was "Bad Days" and it was a list of bad/sad/grumpy things. It was fun.
Hey, maybe I need to start a "good day" journal, but with my moods, we'd need a counter "bad days" one too.
Rambling Man, hand-knit socks, coffee, chai made with milk instead of just hot water, baby kittens, sugar maples in the fall, rainy days when all have to do is sit in the recliner and read, Autumn Lodge Yankee Candle, getting homework done (for the class I'm taking), getting homework graded (for the class I'm teaching), the cool nights for sleeping and getting to stay in bed just 'five' more minutes, all things Halloween . . .
And of course, good mail.
Animated E-cards
A beautiful inscription inside a book I received as a gift
Phone calls from people I love
Eskimo kisses
A "Home Companion by Mary Englebreit" magazine in the mailbox
The feel of super sculpy
Hub's hand patting my shoulder when we go to bed
Hot latte' on a cold morning
Cold tea on a hot morning
Comments on my blog
A bag of Kits. . . chocolate, banana, or strawberry on a trip in the car
Arlo and Janis
My mom's scrapbook
The white blossoms on gourd vines opening at sundown
A well-sharpened #2 pencil and a moleskin notebook
Wow, we have a lot to be thankful for!
