Day 10: Nothing where there was something

It's official: Christmas has left the building.

I got up this morning intending on painting and associated frustrations, but what I really did was remove all signs of the Christmas holiday from our abode. It started out as an effort just to get our Christmas stuff centrally located so that I would have a clearer pallet on which to paint, but it kinda got out of hand and now our Christmas tree is in the front yard and all of our goodies boxed up in the cubby in the stair landing.

So, now the corner where the shiny, sparkly tree once stood there is a vacant corner. It's refreshing for some of the clutter to be gone, but it's kinda sad too, to know that it's all over, all that excitement and anticipation and now it's done, finished, over.

We had to remove the futon from that end of the room to allow for the tree, and once we wrestled it down the stairs and into the basement, we reconsidered it ever making an appearance up here again. Instead, we decided it would be better suited in the den for several reasons: 1) we wouldn't have to fight it back up the stairs; 2) we could remove a piece of furniture from our living room and open it up a bit, give us less clutter and more peace; and 3) we could rid ourselves of a piece of furniture we weren't fond it (the couch that sits where the futon would go).

I think it's a grand idea and have patted Cynical on the back for his innovation, but not moving it back up here means that it is even more apparent that the holiday is over as we have a bright, sunlit hole at the end of the room now.

Anyway, it's official, Christmas is over. It's all wrapped up in tissue paper. It's all been placed in bins and moved out of sight and I am glad for so many reasons, but for so many others, I kinda miss the magic.
The photo at the top of this post is a shot of our sad tree sitting on the curb waiting for pickup. A little different in appearance from our previous posts, eh? The second is our now barren corner that has been converted into a relaxation zone of sorts.

Good for you with the Xmas being put away. Mine is still staring me in the face, along with lots of kids off of school clutter. I need to dig in and get things back in order. Your little Zen corner is making me jealous. It makes me want to pull up a chair, light a candle and read a good book...The Magician's Nephew possibly?

Many people leave their Xmas tree up until New Years but I think there is nothing more depressing than a Xmas tree withut presents under it so I usually take mine down a day or two after....It depense on how long I can take looking at it.

My mother and sister swear that you've got to have all your Christmas stuff put away before Jan. 1st. Something about starting the new year clear of all of last year's troubles. Can't take anything from last year into the new year.

You know, I think it's all a matter of preference and time. I take my down anywhere from December 30 through January 2. All depends on my mood, my mindset, my plans and my stamina.

I do so love my new little corner. Yes, it is very Zen and I am very Zen as a result.

It's nice to have a fresh new start, even if it is just a corner of the room.

Never fear, Emily, it's all up to you, it's your house, your decorations and your decision. Right?
