Make new friends. . .

but keep the old. One is silver and one is gold.

When I was a Girl Scout many, many years ago, we used to sing that song as a "round". I could never keep up and always got lost, so I mainly just mouthed the words.

The tune to that long-lost song kept echoing in my ears as I met two with two "old" friends tonight. I met Queen of Cool and Muse S when I was in middle school. We were kindred spirits: kinda nerdy (sorry Queen of Cool, but you know it's true), kinda funny, very academic, kinda original, kinda in need of people like us.

I don't see Queen of Cool as often as I like and we only see Muse S when once a year and the visit is always too short. I always find myself wishing I could stay up later or take them home with me for a "sleepover".

It's amazing to me how wonderful it feels to be around two people who have known you for so long, remember your Marsha Brady hair, your braces, your affinity for Donnie and Marie and still love you, or at least pretend to.

I can't do our evening justice with words, so I am not going to try. Just suffice to say that my friends are worth their weight in gold.

Happy New Year to you and Cynical. When do we start the reading?
