Wait and see

At Chez Ragged we averted yet another crisis. Please know that in our household we may define crisis in ways that you may not. Don't judge us.

Today if you were a Homeland Security agent and decided to spy in on my conversation with Cynical, you would have heard:

Cynical: Hey, are carnations poisonous?

Ragged (fearing Cynical had used them in his salad): Why do you ask?

Cynical: Ike (our cat) ate a whole one and is now working on the stem.

Ragged (panicked as Ike is my secret favorite): Call the vet.

Cynical: I am not calling the vet. I am taking a "wait and see" attitude.

Ragged: I am calling the vet. They are going to laugh at me, but I am calling the vet.

Cynical: Maybe if it is poisonous we can get a good night's sleep.*

Ragged: This is why we don't have children.

(*Ike is notorious for pestering his owners from 3:30 until 4:30 each morning in an attempt for attention. To him any attentiveness is good, even if it's bad.)

In case you were wondering: carnations aren't poisonous. The vet will laugh at you if you ask. I will not be the one cleaning up leafy kitty puke tonight.

I had a moment much like this one. Only it involved #1 Son and a poinsettia...which are poisonous. Luckily there was a florist/more experienced mother present who assured me he would have to eat half the plant to get sick. He only chewed on a little bit of the leaf.
And vets shouldn't laugh!

Cats just seem to delight in spreading the leafy kitty puke love, don't they? Ficus leaves are Zip's personal favorite. Yum.
