I am a huge fan of Patty Griffin. Such a fan, in fact, that I have abandoned a "new CD" each day program for listening to two of hers over and over again during my commute to and from work.
There is a song on "Impossible Dream" called "When It Don't Come Easy" that so touches me that I often wonder if I should pull over and listen to it as I am far too distracted to drive. I included the lyrics some time back as my response to the destruction brought about by Hurricane Katrina. There is something about the coupling of her insightful and visual lyrics with her powerful, unpolished, touching voice that completely enthralls me.
Now, however, I am addicted to three of her songs: "Every Little Bit" from "Living With Ghosts"; "Top of The World" on the previously mentioned "Impossible Dream" CD; and the third is from the "Elizabethtown" soundtrack entitled "Long Ride Home".
Since I have nothing much to say today, I am including the lyrics to these songs. Add these incredible words to her gut-wrenching voice and you can only imagine the emotion wrapped up in these songs. Maybe it will inspire you to check her out. Warning: this is not uplifting music, do not accompany it with alcohol or sharp objects.

Emily posted a few weeks ago about secrets and "stuff" we all have in our lives and in our minds. Whenever I read her post, the song "Every Little Bit" popped into my mind and seemed fitting.
The photo at top was taken in a small town across the river from my community. It's of a building that was torn down, but the posts and facade kept in tact. I shot it after our Valentine luncheon at an inn next door.

I like the photo, its a great shot.
Lately, I've taken to looking around my own town because how much attention do we really pay to what is going on around us in the place where we live? I drive past the same billboard everyday and yesterday, it was blank and I absolutely could not remember what was on it. That really bothered me, that I don't pay enough attention, am often NOT in the moment and that is really all I have.
I also just watched Elizabethtown and now I'm gonna have to watch it again, so I can listen for the song : .) Oh, and you made me think about the Blister in the Sun lyrics. I'm sure I had an "idea" of what the song was about, but it wasn't really in my consciousness until I read your post. Now I'm a little self-conscious about the times I've belted that song out loud! [blush]
Interesting. I often am thrown when something changes and I cannot exactly tell you how: like not remembering what was shown on a billboard.
I don't think I realized what that song was about either, until it was too late and Cynical had to explain. I too have belted it out, much now to my dismay.
