You can always trust the Magic 8 ball

Lately I have been a bit stressed, a little grumpy and a maybe a tad whiney. Well, actually maybe I have been like that for at least seven years.

But, perhaps it's been a bit magnified lately as Saturday was a rotten day, absolutely rotten and the week has only made it all the more complicated.

Realizing that I am letting the stress of it all get to me, I decided to not make any important decisions today, but instead just to move through the day quietly and deliberately. This has not been easy as I have been asked my opinion or my choice on at least 145,678,345 subjects within the past three hours.

I came to the conclusion that I would, in spite of my best efforts, have to at least take a stab at making a decision. Therefore instead of over-analyzing every situation, reviewing all of the possible outcomes, obstacles and deliverables, I am just consulting my Magic 8 ball. A few shakes and there's the answer. No pondering. No worrying. No researching. No brain power at all.

Yes, I am letting a toy from my childhood aid in all decision making today. I feel it about as reliable as I am these days, so why not?

"Ask again later" and "most likely" are absolutely viable answers, don't you think?

Should I reply to this pointed e-mail now or laterl? "My reply is no" proved suitable.

Should I contact the source of my angst and let him/her know how I feel completely and fully? "Reply hazy, try again" probably thwarted a scene with said person, allowing me time to rethink this whole conflict resolution desire.

Should I eat a Rice Krispie treat for breakfast? "Without a doubt" is just what I needed to read.

I didn't fare so well with my other questions, but the Magic 8 Ball hadn't steered me wrong thus far, so I stuck with it.

Maybe this is the way to go. Leave it all up to chance: shake the Magic 8 Ball and rely on Lady Luck.

So, if you have any gut-tugging questions you've been wrestling, send them my way, the Magic 8 Ball will fix you up and end your anguish.

Sometimes, however, the answer just doesn't quite fit and leaves us wrangling a little bit with the meaning. So, I am suggesting a few new answers be added to the line-up including:

Go ahead. . . you know you want to

It's only gonna end in disaster

Two wrongs don't make a right

Get over it

Nobody will ever know

It's only a misdemeanor

I'm watching you

Maybe, maybe not

Only time will tell

No, you decide

Quit asking

You know someone makes a Sarcastic 8 Ball. It says things like "Yeah, and I'm the Pope."

Also, I made a little me girl to stand on my page too. Hope you don't mind my stealing!

Oh my gosh, I think you're on to something. You should send those in to the Magic 8 Ball people! I'd buy one!

Here's another answer to add to the mix:

"What's the worst that could happen?"

Btw, you never want the answer to that question.

Really now, what the heck is up with all this decision making that we have to do?! I often become paralyzed, waffling between choices. Especially lately.

I like the idea of deferring to the authority of the Magic Eight ball, one of which mysteriously appeared at my desk a few months ago. At the time, I had no idea how it manifested itself, but now I know. It was placed there to help me make decisions!!! Thanks for finally clearing that up for me, Ragged!!!

Will you suggest those additional answers to the powers that be at the Magid Eight Ball manufacturing plant? I think they fit very well for us in the modern world : .)

Things would be very interesting if we all consulted the Magic 8 ball, that's for sure. I think it's a fabulous idea!!!! I also think some of the people I deal with on a daily basis have already adapted this policy......

They should make a Magic 8 Ball for toddlers so mothers won't have to answer the same question 800 times a day,
* Go Ask Your Father
* No You Most Certainly Can Not!
* Where Did You See It Last?
* Ask Again When I'm Off The Phone
* I DON"T CARE!!!
Sorry, I couldn't help myself.
