Orange you glad you knit?

Whenever I learned that the Project Spectrum's colors for April would be orange and yellow, I was a bit concerned. You see, I am a bit of a beige and black kinda girl and I think that is often reflected in my knitting.

So, I decided that my projects for this month would be small in nature. I knew I'd never wear an orange sweater or perhaps yellow leg warmers. My favorite thing to knit is a hat. Maybe it's because they are a quick project. Maybe it's because I have a thing for hats. Maybe it's because I like to wear hats. Maybe I just love double-pointed needles.

Above you see my first Project Spectrum project for the month. It is a bit reminiscent of an orange cone you may pass along the roadway marking a construction zone, but I have to admit that I love it. I love the fit. I love that it's so soft. I love the color and I love the yarn. The irony here is that the color is not typically something I am drawn to. Another irony is that the yarn is an inexpensive Lion Brand Microspun in Mango. (Now, let's not get all Alanis and discuss the true meaning of "irony" here.)

I am going to wear it whenever we discuss construction projects (see previous post, this will be my contractor hat) at our house or maybe when walking this summer. I am sure to be seen by oncoming traffic.

I love it so much that I may make myself a black or beige one, to suit my true color tastes and so I can blend in a bit more.

Below you see my weekend project. It started out as a kitty bed sure to warm the belly and heart of my dear Izzie. It transformed into a kitty bowl, something to hold her toys. Either way, she got something knitted of her own. Yes, I am a card carrying member of the Cat Ladies Auxilliary - Western Division (CLAWD if you will). I have now attempted knitting for my cats. Excuse me while I tie my sensible shoes, take my vitamins and eat my cereal for dinner.

The hat looks yummy! Orange sherbet!

And your kitty bowl is so cute! (I saw the before and was wondering how that would become a bed, or errr...bowl in this case.) I want one!!! And a cat too! : .)

P.S. I'm half listening to the Daily Show as I type this and they just showed a color chip of "soft pumpkin." I didn't know that Jon Stewart was participating in Project Spectrum too.
