You know you are getting older when most of your doctors are either retiring or (bless their souls) dying. I have had kinda a bad run with the medical profession recently. Two years ago, my gynecologist (who delivered both of my brothers, that’s never a good sign) announced his retirement. Previously my general practitioner had passed away. And, sadly, the only dentist I had ever known died.
So, I am on my second batch. This time I chose a “female” doctor (my grandmother’s pseudonym for gynecologist) that’s my age. I opted for a dentist who is in practice with his wife, so I always have a back-up. Unfortunately, my second-round general practitioner is nearing retirement, cutting his office hours back and such, so I will be on the hunt again.
I had my annual eye exam yesterday and I really, really like my optometrist. He seems healthy and young enough to be around for a while, so I am confident he can stick with me at least until I need bifocals. My previous “eye doctor” left the community to become a surveyor in a Midwestern state. How’s that for abandonment? I had considered asking New Eye Doctor for a medical history and drilling him about future plans, but I suspect he wouldn’t appreciate extraneous questions as he went through his whole, “Which is better, one (flip, flip) or two; three (flip, flip) or four?” routine.
So, the good news is that my vision has remained basically stable. The bad news is that I am on my last pair of contacts. Mine have to be ordered, so let’s just hope I make it two weeks with these babies. Funny thing is that they are supposed to be changed out every two weeks, but I always choose the “extended” route, attempting to wear them four to six.
Update:
Cola intake for Tuesday:
Nada, nothing. Aren’t you so very proud of me? Today is off to a good start as well. Mmmmm, green tea.
You should have seen my optometrist's face when I asked to photograph his "equipment".
