I finally finished the second of the Voodoo Wrist Warmers (from www.knitty.com). The second went much faster than the first. Fewer interuptions and a higher level of comfort with starting off on the double-pointed needles probably made the second one a little snappier to knit. So, now where there was one, there are two.
I unveiled my creation by donning them, raising my hands above my head, crossing my arms at my wrists and declaring myself the "Mighty Isis". This did nothing to endear them to my fashion advisor Cynical. I kinda like them though. Very hip and happenin', and I gotta make some as a gift 'cause I want all the cool girls to be sporting this newest fashion trend.
I used Plymouth Yarn's Outback 100% Virgin Wool and size five double-pointed needles. They are so bright, colorful and cheerful. Who wouldn't want to wear them in this dreary January?
So, believe it or not, I have nothing on my needles. (Gee, don't I sound like a seasoned knitter. . .) I still need to seam my poncho, but I can't bring myself to look at it right now and I am hoping that I muster the desire to tackle it tomorrow.
I am considering the felted Marsupial Tote from "Stitch 'N Bitch". I think I shall make it out of my beautiful Lopi yarn. The pattern calls for double-stranding Lambs Pride Worsted, so I am wondering if I need to do the same with the seemingly much thicker Lopi. I dunno yet. Let me ponder. I so love the chocolate brown and green.
Once I wrapped up the wrist warmers, we headed to Cynical's home county for a birthday celebration for his grandmother, who celebrated her 79th birthday yesterday (January 13). She's been very ill for quite a while and is in Hospice care. I was glad to get to celebrate such an occasion with her and to honor her. She has two living children, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. What a wonderful legacy.
We have plans to meet my folks for dinner soon. We hope to also snag some tile for our back entry and. . . . a sewing machine! (More news on the latter coming soon.)

The wrist warmers are great! That's the next thing I'd like to make. Were they hard?
Do they also deflect bullets, ala Superwoman?
I love the way Kim thinks!
They ARE wonderful. Your needles are going to be to the nub the way you're burning up the yarn! Way to go.
Kim,
It's a free pattern and really not hard. Also, I got to learn how to make a button hole (which also means a new cast-on method), and how to use the double pointed needles. See, it's a learning tool.
Thanks for the kudos, everybody.
I hadn't thought about using them to deflect bullets, how about barbs as well? I may never take them off.
Kim,
One minor adjustment, I wish I'd made the wrist part a little shorter and I did make the part above the thumb just a little longer to cover the hand more. Just minor changes.
I love the colors in your latest project. I'm glad your addressing the epidemic of cold wrists that has been plaguing us for too long. :)
Now I have to learn how to knit so I can figure out what you and Needlefingers are talking about. I think I have socks she made me that would match your wrist warmers!
Definitely invest in a sewing machine. They rock! (Is it sad that I'm this excited about sewing machines?)
Emily,
Warm wrists, warm hearts, that's my motto. I am afraid they are much more colorful than my usual stuff, but I got all crazy and brave.
Nicole,
Hand hoodies! That's awesome. I am reconsidering the sewing machine. Cynical seems to wonder how much I will use it and now I am wondering too. Hmmm, I am gonna think on it.
Farm wife,
Oh, you gotta learn, but warning: it's so addictive. If you have the socks, you gotta have the warmers!
