Summertime and the living is easy

I have been neglectful in thanking all of you for the wonderful birthday wishes. You guys make birthdays fun.

I also owe a huge thanks to Phin and Madretz for the beautiful handmade cards and the adorable "It's A Small World" snow globe. (I am struggling with photographing it, but I assure you, it's too cute for words.) In addition, I have already received my portion of a trade with Phin, and I promise to show you my big score whenever I finish my end of the deal.

I have been tagged by Cynical, who apparently is part of a long line of tagees. So, here are eight random things about me:

1. My obsessive-compulsive number is 4. (Meaning I count things in multiples of four whenever I am nervous.)

2. I love cheese. I mean LUV it.

3. My favorite place in the world is our bedroom. It's peaceful, uncluttered, quiet, well lit, tucked away in one corner of the house and a wonderful breeze blows through this time of year.

4. I do not have an athletic or rhythmic bone in my body, meaning I suck at team sports and dancing.

5. I am addicted to organizational shows. I even use the DVR to record them for my viewing pleasure.

6. I nearly broke into tears when I heard that "Veronica Mars" was cancelled. I also refer to situations she has encountered when talking to my friends, which always results in an eye roll and a very sympathetic look.

7. I sleep soundly each night, falling into slumber immediately and rarely moving.

8. I look like my grandmother.

Now, if you just read this, assume yourself "tagged".

Little Bunny Faux Foo

People do the nicest things, don't they? And I am always amazed at their generosity and thoughtfulness. I often hope some of it will rub off on me.

For instance, I had been coveting Blue Moon Fiber Arts Little Bunny Foo Foo sock yarn for some time and had even pondered ordering it. However, after a little "googling" with Needlefingers, we quickly learned, much to my dismay, that the colors pooled in the most unfortunate of ways. Needlefingers assured me that we could come up with something much better. And that she did.

She surprised me with a skein of her very own hand-dyed Little Bunny Faux Foo for my birthday. It's so very gorgeous and right up my alley in softness and color. She did such a wonderful job. How thoughtful is she?

Birthdays are the bestest

You might know this about me, but if you don't, hang around long enough and youll be able to figure out that I like holidays, all holidays. I really do. I must admit I even enjoy my own birthday. That may seem very narcissistic, but darnit, who doesn't like their birthday?

It kinda all began on Friday when my work buddies and I, per a tradition established for all of our birthdays, went out to lunch, opened gifts, started a birthday shrine and skipped outta work for an hour.

My folks took us to dinner at my new favorite restaurant where there was more gift opening, some canoli and cards. Our night concluded with the season finale of the first season of "Veronica Mars". What more could a girl ask for? Well, let me tell you. . .

And all the fun flowed over to yesterday (my actual birthday). Cynical and I jumped in the car for a little trek across the river. A marathon shopping trip resulted in summer clothes, yarn (of course), and a whole sundry of goodies. Apparently the apparel gods were smiling upon me as I had anticipated a disappointing day of clothes shopping, but in reality I came home all set for the summer. We ate a wonderful lunch, wasted time over iced coffee, perused book stores, sang with the radio, and drove along blissfully in the sunshine.

Then we came home and crashed. Lack of sleep the night before, lots of walking, trying on one too many pair of jeans and too many celebratory meals had worn us down.

Cynical baked me cupcakes, yummy, milk-chocolate-iced cupcakes. Intermingled Saturday were calls from my brothers, dear friends, beautiful cards and mysterious packages. However would I celebrate without those that I love and love me back. Thank you.

Today we celebrated Mother's Day with each of our moms, got some quality time with Princess M and managed to tackle all of the chores I had been putting off all week. The sweet smell of just mowed grass is being carried in on a cool spring breeze. The perfect ending to a wonderful weekend.

Turning 38 ain't that bad (so far)

A mere 38 years ago today, after eating an ungodly amount of blueberry-topped cheesecake, waiting for my dad to brush his teeth before heading to the hospital, and less than 6 hours of labor, my mom had her first child, a daughter. And that daughter be me.
