Thanks Easter Bunny

When our guests left today I was sad. I was sad because our wonderful weekend was coming to an end. I was sad because soon we'd have to re-enter the real world. I was sad that Needlefingers and Pilot don't live closer.

Our weekend began early when the duo made their way to Chez Ragged on Thursday night. We don't often get the luxury of a long weekend together, which, by the way, passed much too quickly. Cynical had to work, so we consoled Pilot with lots and lots of cheesy pizza, as he was silently fretting over his speeding ticket. And we topped it off with stuffed breadsticks. Frigid weather kept us inside where it was safe and warm. The rest of the weekend was absorbed by Trivial Pursuit playing, ice cream eating, movie watching, knitting, knitting and more knitting, laughing, giggling, tell-all-ing, trip planning, internet surfing, plotting and coffee drinking. Can you think of a better way to spend a weekend?

I can. . . you plan a meet-up Japanese lunch with Brando and Rudy! And then you get some time to visit with them, provide a grand tour of Chez Ragged and oooooh and aaaaaah over the new bathroom. (For a much more eloquent summary, visit Needlefingers' internet homeplace.)

This morning I celebrated Easter with a church service with my parents, complete with familiar hymns, a brass section and sweet little girls in bonnets. Cynical met up with us for lunch, topped off by the second chocolate bunny gifted to me today. I am the luckiest girl in the whole wide world, not only because I'll soon be nibbling on chocolate bunny ears, but because I got to spend the weekend with my favorite people. I hope your holiday weekend was as blessed.

Happy Easter

Whole lotta nothing going on

Good Friday lived up to its name: it was a good day.

I woke up yesterday morning refreshed, just knowing that I had nothing or everything ahead of me. I laid in the very center of the bed, sunshine streaming between the blinds and a cool breeze blowing over me. I wondered if I would ever even leave that very room. However, once Cynical was off to work early, I sauntered down the stairs to figure out exactly how I wanted to spend my time. Over a cup of tea, I realized that where I really wanted to be on my Good Friday was home, where it was quiet, where it was peaceful and where I could truly relax.

Some laundry, some house cleaning, some reading, some breakfast and some nail painting pretty much consumed my morning. (There was a mishap involving dropping the bottle of polish into the tub and making a huge mess, but nothing a little ingenuity and acetone couldn't fix.) My shiny toes and I took a shower and I headed to the yarn shoppe to replace a set of needles that were, shall we say, "taste tested" by Ike. I also picked up some supplies for my One Skein projects. Getting home a little later than I expected, I found Cynical alseep on the freshly made bed. I knitted a bit while he dozed and then finally convinced him that this was not a day to sleep away.

We opted for a road trip to an outlet mall in search of you guessed it: khakis. Seems we can never have enough khakis. Both of us have casual workplaces and it seems that we don the same attire nearly every day. I came home with, yes, khakis, several shirts and some shorts, all sure to make me the best dressed knitting, cat lady on the block.

Our drive was gorgeous as we passed field after field of bright yellow wild mustard and purple clover. It was the kind of trip that made you want to keep driving, to pack up everything you own and keep travelling, just to see where you will end up. It made me want to be a runaway, a hobo. . .

However, reality struck and we made our way back home. We stopped for a visit with Cynical's sister, brother-in-law and little Princess M. Mexican food called, so we coerced them to join us for lots of cheese and salsa.

As for today, there are lots of things we should be doing, instead, I have taken on small projects awaiting me such as updating my knitting photos, doing a little organizing, a little cat hair control, and painting of our antique doorknobs original to the house. I have other plans ahead of me which include some closet cleaning, some reorganization and maybe even a little more knitting.

Like I said, there is a whole lotta nothing going on around here.

Above is my progress on my first sock. I am calling her Apple and posed her with her namesake yesterday since we had wonderful lighting in our kitchen. I actually had two apples, but Cynical ate one before I could shoot the photo.

Thursday. . . just moments away from Friday

Why is it that I get so excited about some time off? I love my job. I love my co-workers. It's just the mere idea that my time is my own. I don't have to answer the phone. I don't have to be up and out of the house by 7:30 a.m. I don't have to even don clothing until 2 p.m. if I so choose.

I think it's about freedom. It's about being the master of your own time.

I have no plans for my Good Friday. I suspect I will attempt to sleep late, take some time to brew tea when I finally trudge down the stairs. I may take some knitting outside and bask in the sun while I whittle away at my projects.

I may venture to eat lunch with a friend or perhaps visit the used book store or maybe those little shops of junk scattered around town. Who knows, inside I may find treasures I never expected like an old metal fan, rare Fiestaware or maybe vintage hats.

The day is mine, all mine.

A day away

This Friday is a holiday for us and that means a day away from work. All week long I have been trying to decide what to do with this freebie day. At first I had contemplated mulching our flower beds. Then I thought about a little spring cleaning.

But it just didn't seem right to use my free day doing chores. I didn't want to slave away on my freebie day. Cynical works during the morning and I can't seem to interest him in a day trip. Queen of Cool unfortunately has to work the entire day, so a day of play with her is not an option.

I fear if I stay home I will find myself cleaning house, folding laundry and catching up on what needs to be done there and that will defeat the purpose.

So, I am still trying to decide how to spend my 8 luscious hours of free time. Any ideas?
